Passing on best practices and experience is essential in all areas where IRMM is working. IRMM hosts a large number of PhD and post-doctoral fellows, visiting scientists, national experts and trainees every year and offers many opportunities for young scientists.
IRMM also works in close collaboration with European universities and fostered the Euromaster Measurement Science in Chemistry and has a fellowship scheme that allows stays at the institute up to three years.
During that period our PhD and post-doctoral fellows are thoroughly trained in many measurement techniques and on how to produce reliable measurement results. Also shorter stays are possible, especially for more senior experts and trainees.
IRMM can also provide access for external users to its large scale facilities for neutron physics: the two accelerators GELINA and IRMM Van de Graaff. Beam time is available via the EUFRAT project.
Specialist training courses are also regularly organised by the institute (e.g. use of reference materials).
IRMM has also set up a life long learning programme for metrology in chemistry (TrainMiC), through which harmonised knowledge is created and via national teams composed of trainers which have a JRC User Licence Agreement (Commission Decision of 17th Dec 2008).

| Use of reference materials and the estimation of measurement uncertainty
Training course
10-11 October, 2012
IRMM, Geel
This course provides participants with the theoretical basis for the estimation of measurement uncertainty and establishment of traceability. The course is intended for laboratory managers and practitioners in analytical laboratories who use reference materials for statistical quality control, method validation and calibration and need to assess measurement uncertainties on customer’s demand or as requirement of ISO 17025. Further information is available in the course leaflet[180Kb].
