JRC-IRMM has extended its range of GMO certified reference materials (CRMs) and released three sets of CRMs certified for their copy number ratio for the maize events NK603 and 98140, and the soya event 356043. Each set consists of a matrix CRM for quality control and a plasmid DNA CRM suitable for calibration.
The three matrix CRMs ERM®-BF415e, ERM®-BF425c and ERM®-BF427c were first certified for their mass fraction of GMO. This certification was now extended to the copy number ratio measured by a defined quantitative polymerase chain reaction (PCR) method and calibrated with the corresponding plasmid DNA CRMs ERM®-AD415, ERM®-AD425 and ERM®-AD427. The matrix and plasmid DNA CRMs were processed according to ISO Guide 34. The three plasmid DNA CRMs are certified for the number of DNA fragments per plasmid, one specific transgenic and one taxon-specific sequence. They are intended to be used for the calibration of the event-specific method for the quantification of the NK603, 98140 and 356043 in food or feed samples.
Each matrix CRM, used for quality control, and corresponding plasmid DNA CRM, used for calibration, forms together with the event-specific PCR method a reference system for the expression of the measured GM quantity in copy number ratios as suggested in Recommendation (EC) No 787/2004. All six CRMs can be obtained directly from JRC-IRMM or from the authorised distributors. Further information including the certification report and certificates can be found on the reference materials catalogue of JRC-IRMM.
