This new agreement expands on previous collaboration between NIST and the JRC - especially the JRC's Institute for Reference Materials and Measurements (IRMM) and is particularly relevant in the light of the currently negotiated Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP).
NIST and the JRC-IRMM have collaborated on a number of projects dating back to the late 1990'. Cooperation has been mainly in the area of measurements and standards. The JRC-IRMM and NIST are globally key providers of certified reference materials. The new agreement expands the existing collaboration on metrology related aspects in the field of industrial materials, food, clinical and environmental chemistry to new areas such as energy. Strengthening the working together will establish an overarching framework for a cross-Atlantic cooperation on standards and measurements aiming to facilitate innovation and trade.
