New large-sized dried spike - IRMM-1027L
10 January, 2012
These spikes are applied to measure the uranium and plutonium content in dissolved fuel solutions using isotope dilution mass spectrometry. The spikes are prepared in large batches under rigorous conditions. They are dispensed by means of an automated robot system allowing in an optimized manner to meet the customer requests for large-sized dried spikes production in large batches. A light cellulose layer is dried on the spike material in a penicillin-type ampoule to retain the spike at the bottom of the vial during transport to where it will be used. The spikes are a fundamental part of the fissile material control of irradiated nuclear fuel.
