Visit of Minister Andrzej Babuchowski and and Mr Mariusz Legowski, Attaché

On Tuesday 30 August 2011, the JRC-IRMM welcomed Minister Andrzej Babuchowski and Mr Mariusz Legowski, Attaché, from the Agriculture and Fisheries Section of the Permanent Representation of the Republic of Poland to the European Union.

During the visit, Messrs Babuchowski and Legowski learned about the acitivites of the institute in the area of food safety, and it was explained that JRC-IRMM operates four EU reference laboratories for food and feed safety, and support various Directorates-General of the European Commission in matters of food contaminants, authentication and fraud.

The visitors also had a short tour of the JRC-IRMM's nuclear facilities, which deliver important data for the safe operation of nuclear reactors and the reduction of nuclear waste. It was explained that the JRC one of the major suppliers of neutron data for international databases and one of the few European laboratories where extremely accurate radioactivity measurements are carried out.
