JRC-IRMM recruiting specialist for detection of food allergens

JRC-IRMM is looking to recruit a specialist to lead a team of eight scientists working in the area of analytical methods for the detection of food allergens. The position is for a fixed-term contract (4+2 years), with a monthly salary starting from 9124 EUR. Description: Temporary Agent (AD11): Detection of Allergens in Food
Place of employment: Geel, Belgium 
Level: AD11 (for specialists) As an indication, the basic monthly salary starts from 9124 EUR.
Duration of contract: The duration of the contract may not exceed four years, with the possibility of renewal for a maximum of two years.
Nature of duties:

The successful candidate shall lead a group of scientist developing and validating methods for the detection of allergens in food. He/she shall represent the activity vis-à-vis DG SANCO and contribute to standardisation of methods in collaboration with CEN, AOAC International and Codex Alimentarius. The scientific tasks and main duties will include:

- Leading a group of eight scientist working in the area of analytical methods for the detection of food allergens
- Defining the science strategy for the group
- Taking the lead in the implementation of modern mass spectrometry based methods in proteomics
- Conception, implementation and supervision of project plans for the development and validation of methods for the detection of allergens in complex food matrices based on a proteomics approach
- Laboratory work (sample preparation, gelbased and gelfree proteomics, mass spectrometry, data evaluation)
- Inhouse training of junior scientists in all major aspects of mass spectrometry based proteomics
- Organisation of collaborative studies to evaluate the performance characteristics of food allergen testing methods or the performance of laboratories involved in food allergen testing
- Developing and sustaining collaboration with other institutions dealing with food allergens
- Instruction and supervision of scientific coworkers and laboratory support staff (work organisation, scheduling of work flow, report generation)
- Administrative duties as required by JRC internal processes, including quality management issues
- Dissemination of research results (drafting of manuscripts for publication in peer reviewed journals, book chapters, presentations to meetings, workshops and conferences)
- Representation of the Unit in internal and external meetings, committees and conferences
