The Institute for Reference Materials and Measurements organised a proficiency
test on the determination of 3-MCPD esters in edible oil expressed as 3-MCPD,
upon request of the Directorate General Health and Consumers (DG SANCO).
The main objective of this exercise was to evaluate the comparability of
analytical results gained by food control laboratories in Europe.
Participation in this exercise was open to official food control laboratories,
private laboratories and laboratories from industry. Participation was free of
charge.
Test material and analytes
The test material to be analysed was edible oil. Samples were distributed to
the participants in October 2009.

General outline of the exercise
Participants were requested to perform analyses using the method of their
