Contributions should highlight the advancement in gamma-spectrometry with a particular focus on prompt gamma rays. Workshop 18 November, 2011 Izmir, Turkey In the frame of the Europe and Metrology in Turkey project, Dr. Ralf-Peter Kapsch (PTB), Dr. Achim Krauss (PTB) and Dr. Doğan Yasar (TAEK-CNAEM) will give three lectures on dosimetry for radiation therapy. Use of reference materials and the estimation of measurement uncertainty Training course 12-13 October, 2011 Geel, Belgium This course provides participants with the theoretical basis for the estimation of measurement uncertainty and establishment of traceability. The course is intended for laboratory managers and practitioners in analytical laboratories who use reference materials for statistical quality control, method validation and calibration and need to assess measurement uncertainties on customer’s demand or as requirement of ISO 17025. This three-day convention marked the 10th anniversary of the TrainMiC® programme. TrainMiC® is a life-long learning programme developed by the JRC-IRMM, which provides a harmonised and specialised training programme on the requirements of ISO/IEC-17205 for laboratory personnel. Workshop on advanced gamma-ray spectrometry Workshop 20-24 June, 2011 Ankara, Turkey In the frame of the Europe and Metrology in Turkey project, Dr. Mikael Hult (JRC-IRMM) and Dr. Tim Vidmar (SCK-CEN) will conduct a workshop on advanced gamma-ray spectrometry at TAEK-SANAEM, Ankara. Workshop on Quality Management in Radiotherapy Workshop 17-18 June, 2011 Istanbul, Turkey In the frame of the Europe and Metrology in Turkey project, Prof. Guenther Hartmann from the German Cancer Research Center and TAEK staff will conduct a workshop on the topics of QA/QC for radiotherapy machines and treatment planning systems at the Nuclear Research and Training Center at Çekmece (ÇNAEM) and at the University of Istanbul, Institute of Oncology in Istanbul. Research in nuclear sciences: impact on the citizen Conference 9 December, 2010 IRMM, Geel, Belgium The Belgian Nuclear Society, in association with SCK•CEN, the Institute for Radioelements (IRE), and the JRC, is organising a conference on nuclear sciences in physics and medical applications. The conference will take place at the JRC-IRMM in Geel, Belgium. The main purpose of the conference is to promote nuclear science and innovation and to demonstrate its impact on new technologies and health in Belgium and at international level. The programme addresses research in nuclear sciences, and with its applications in nuclear physics (neutron data measurements at JRC-IRMM), and for the production of radio-isotopes for medical application (production reactor at SCK•CEN and targets processing at IRE).

Conference November 23-25, 2010 Geel, Belgium The conference aimed at mapping out the current and upcoming measurement and testing needs for which challenging demands on reference materials are envisaged. Forward-looking presentations assessed the scientific and technological demands and developments for the design, preparation and certification of such measurement standards. The conference was organised under the auspices of the Belgian Presidency of the EU. 26 October, 2010 Geel, Belgium The first group of graduates of a new European Master's degree received their diplomas on 26 October 2010 at the JRC's Institute for Reference Materials and Measurements (IRMM) in Geel, Belgium. The degree, "Measurement Science in Chemistry", was based on training initiatives developed by JRC-IRMM.
