The Programme Advisory Committee (PAC) is composed of (1) the Unit Head of the
Neutron Physics (NP) Unit, who is also the chairman, (2) three external
independent international experts in the neutron research fields and (3) the
two action leaders of the NP Unit. The two responsibles of the accelerator
facilities contribute to the PAC meetings as advisors.
The present members of the PAC are:
-
P. Rullhusen, IRMM, Geel, Belgium (chairman)
-
F. Gunsing, CEA, Saclay, France
-
A. Koning, NRG, Petten, The Netherlands
-
N. Colonna, INFN, Bari, Italy
-
F. J. Hambsch, IRMM, Geel, Belgium
-
A. Plompen, IRMM, Geel, Belgium
-
G. Giorginis, IRMM, Geel, Belgium (responsible Van de Graaff facility, advisor)
-
W. Mondelaers, IRMM, Geel, Belgium (responsible GELINA facility, advisor)
The PAC will assess the experimental proposals on the basis of the following
criteria:
-
importance for the strategic goals of the Euratom Work Programme and fit to
the thematic area addressed in the 7th Euratom Fission Framework Programme
-
preference for proposals in the areas of radioactive waste management and
innovative GenIV nuclear reactor systems
-
scientific importance and quality
-
match to the neutron data community demands
-
originality and innovative aspect, both from the scientific and technological
point of view
-
feasibility and quality of nuclear data that can be obtained
-
research activity complementary to the institutional work programme of the NP
Unit and synergetic use of the infrastructure
-
ability of IRMM to satisfy the needs of the proposal
Once a proposal is approved, the PAC will also:
-
allocate the appropriate flight path and the necessary beam time at GELINA or
the Van de Graaff facility
-
define possible experimental constraints and the level of technical support
-
designate a researcher from IRMM as local contact; he will function as a
liaison between the user group and the machine operators, the other scientific
staff and the administration and technical service of the IRMM
